Sophomore RHP Erin Poepping, coming off a brilliant opening weekend showing at the USC Upstate Spartan Classic, has been named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week according to an announcement by the league Monday.

The weekly selection is the first of Poepping’s career and first for the program since Lydia Ritchie garnered the accolade back on Feb. 20, 2017.

Poepping went 3-0 with a 0.46 earned run average and 13 strikeouts against just two walks in 15.1 innings pitched in Spartanburg. She allowed just one earned run the entire weekend and tossed two complete games while holding opponents to a .123 batting average.

Beginning her weekend against Miami of Ohio, Poepping scattered two hits and gave up no earned runs with no walks and five strikeouts in the 9-1 five-inning win. She the captured the victory in relief against Towson, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings and surrendering just one hit in the Pirates' 14-5 win. Poepping finished the weekend in style with her third victory of the season in the 3-1 win over USC Upstate during which she went the distance (7.0 IP), giving up just one earned run with seven strikeouts against one walk and scattering four hits against the No. 61 RPI squad from 2018. She retired 12-straight batters at one point during the win over the host Spartans.

ECU kicks off a 16-game homestand this weekend when it welcomes Cleveland State, Purdue, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Wagner to Greenville for the three-day Pirate Clash.
