GREENVILLE, N.C. – For the fifth consecutive season, a number of challengers made their way to Greenville for the Bill Carson Invitational. It was the home side, however, that captured both the men's and women's team titles for the third-straight year this weekend in rainy conditions at the Minges Family Field inside Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility.
Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Troy and The Citadel joined the Purple and Gold to make up the field.
The ECU women set a meet record for points, racking up 292 to run away with the crown over second place Charlotte who garnered 156 points. On the men's side, the Pirates were able to hold off Troy by a score of 151.5 to 137.
In all, ECU won 15 events and turned in a plethora of top-three finishes across the board.
"We are extremely excited to win both the women's and men's titles at the fifth-annual Bill Carson Invitational," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "It's always nice to protect your home turf in front of your home fans, families and administration. Our teams look forward to our home meet each and every year. Both teams continued to compete with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. This is the time of the year when you want your teams competing with a lot of confidence and to have them feel good about their performances. Now it's time to turn our attention to North Carolina A&T.
