East Carolina University defensive lineman Alex Turner was just announced as a nominee for the prestigious 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® for making a significant impact on his community through his volunteer accomplishments.
Turner is one of the 169 college football players from across the country that were nominated this year for their remarkable “good works” off the field. Since 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has been one of the most coveted community service awards in college football, bringing together student athletes from all divisions of play to honor their dedication to volunteerism and enriching the lives of others.
Turner boasts an impressive resume of accomplishments, including:
-Volunteering with Aces for Autism by interacting with children and through fundraising efforts for the organization
-Assisting in the coordination of the Special Olympics in Greenville, NC and speaking to the participants
-Visiting local Vidant Children’s Hospital on a regular basis to deliver messages of encouragement to the patients
From the 169 nominees, a final roster of 22 award recipients - comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA (and one honorary head coach) - will be unveiled in September.
