Woman killed by car on highway after running from troopers

DURHAM, NC (WITN) - Authorities say a woman was struck and killed on a highway in our state after resisting arrest.

State troopers were investigating an accident on I-85 south near East Club Boulevard in Durham around 10:45 p.m. Monday.

Driver Destinee Abraham, 26, of Hope Mills, was being placed under arrest for driving while impaired when troopers say she ran away into the northbound lanes of I-85.

Abraham was struck by a car and died at the scene.

The trooper who was arresting her was placed on administrative duty, which is standard protocol for any in-custody death.

The SBI is assisting in the investigation.
