ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Deputies say a woman is accused of trying to strangle her six-year-old stepdaughter who spent nine days in the hospital.
Shoshanna Scarlett-Booth, 38, was charged Wednesday with felony child abuse causing serious physical injury, felony assault by strangulation, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, 2 counts of trafficking opioids, and possession of paraphernalia.
The child had significant injuries from the November 27th assault, according to deputies, and was just released from the hospital yesterday.
Deputies say when searching the woman after her arrest, they found illegal drugs and paraphernalia.
Scarlett-Booth, who lives in the Southwest area of the county, remains in jail on a $132,000 secured bond.
Deputies say the Department of Social Services is involved in the case and are handling custody arrangements for the child.
