BEAUFORT, NC (WITN) - The 15th Annual Beaufort Wine and Food Festival got underway in Carteret County Wednesday.
A wine luncheon was held in downtown Beaufort, which officially kicks off the dozens of events the festival hosts each year.
In addition to fun and delicious food and drinks, the event also gives back to Carteret County each year.
This year Beaufort Wine and Food is donating $100 thousand to help Carteret Community College complete it's new culinary arts building and $50 thousand is going to the Salvation Army in Morehead City toward their new facility.
Festival leaders say those attending the event make it possible for Beaufort Wine and Food to contribute to local non--profit organizations, but to also provide an economic boost to the Beaufort area.
Lindsay Parker is the Beaufort Wine and Food Executive Director. She said, "It's so special to see hotels full, bed and breakfasts and the Inns here in Beaufort full. You know, no rooms available and to see folks dining and patronizing the shops all week."
There are dozens of events going on all week long through Sunday afternoon. WITN is a proud sponsor of the Beaufort Wine and Food Festival.
