A wild horse on the Outer Banks had to be put down late last week.
The Corolla Wild Horse Fund posted pictures to its Facebook page of Joaquin, who was a young stallion and well-known in the Swan Beach area. He got hurt when he tried to go through a barbed wire fence last week.
A good Samaritan saw him on Thursday and called the non-profit. A veterinarian determined that his leg couldn't be treated and the best course of action was to put him down. The horse fund is setting up meetings with U.S. Fish and Wildlife to hopefully replace the barbed wire there in order to have something that might not hurt the horses.
