WAYNE COUNTY, NC (WITN) A deputy here in the east is being recognized for his work with a drug task force.
Cpl. Jonathan Batchelor was one of the four deputies that formed the driving while impaired task force that began in Wayne County back in 2015.
The department says Cpl. Batchelor went above and beyond to earn his drug recognition expert certification which requires hours of classroom study as well as conducting practice exercises.
During a promotional ceremony at the annual training, he was recognized for outstanding and platinum performance as a drug expert as well as a top performing drug recognition expert from a sheriffs office.
When the task force began Wayne County was 13th in the state for fatal accidents that involved an impaired driver, but has since lowered to 25th.
