Washington not selected for Hulu reality show
After making it into the final six towns out of an initial 12,000 applications, Washington was hoping to hear the city's name one more time Tuesday night as the winner for the Hulu show "Small Business Revolution, Main Street," was announced.
Unfortunately, Washington was not selected.
The winning city is Searcy, Arkansas.
Searcy will now be featured on season 4 of the show, along with getting a $500,000 main street makeover.
Voting for the finalists was held online. The program says there were a total of 1.6 million votes cast.
The city of Washington, that has been vying for a spot in the final round of a competition, has made it to the top six, and is now one step closer to bringing a reality TV show to the city.
Washington has been participating in the Small Business Revolution competition. If the city wins, six episodes of Hulu's show 'Main Street' will be filmed in the city's downtown area.
Washington would also get 500-thousand dollars for revitalization on Main Street. Today the top six cities in the country were announced and Washington made the cut.
Local business leaders and officials with the Tourism Authority say winning this would be huge for Washington and would help bring awareness to everything the area has to offer. Washington Tourism Director Erin Ruyle said, "We're hoping everyone will show their North Carolina pride we're the only town in the top six in the state of North Carolina so we're relying on votes from you guys and we're up against some bigger states and cities.
You can vote for Washington once per day on the Small Business Revolution Website. The winning city will be announced at the end of this month.
