Waitr food delivery app comes to Jacksonville restaurants

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) One city in the East is among the first in the state to expand a restaurant delivery option.

People in Jacksonville have one more way to beat the lunch or dinner rush through the Waitr food delivery app. Waitr is the only food delivery service app that delivers onto military bases.

"There's some folks who can't necessarily just drop everything and come out to eat somewhere. So we can bring it to them and hopefully change their day for the better," said Jay Robinson who opened Fat Al's Dawg House three months ago in Jacksonville with his wife.

Their business is among the first in Jacksonville partnering with Waitr and Robinson says they're already getting orders through the app.

Waitr sets a 20 mile radius for delivery. From there you select where you want to eat and what you want. A driver will deliver it to you for a flat fee of five dollars.

Jacqueline Poirrier works with the app and says it will create jobs in the city as it expands.

"We expect to hire at least 100 drivers if not more," said Poirrier.

Robinson who is an Army veteran says the apps consideration of the military community drew him to it.

"We owe it to them to give them a break," said Robinson.

Waitr app drivers will be properly vetted so that they can deliver onto the base.

The app will be adding more Jacksonville restaurants in the coming days and may expand to other Eastern Carolina cities in the future.

Waitr is also offering free delivery in Jacksonville through May 5th if you use the promo code JACKSONVILLENC at checkout.
