GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - Students at one elementary school began playing on a new playground Tuesday made possible by donors and now inclusive to all children.
Pirate Playground is now open and all students at Wahl Coates Elementary are free to play.
School leaders and the community gathered Tuesday thanking donors as they dedicated two playgrounds.
They say, the previous playground had a lot problems and was unsafe and off limits.
Not only is the new playground safe, its also beautifully coated in brilliant ECU colors.
But one of its best features ins being wheelchair accessible.
The school raised more than $50,000 in donations to create the playgrounds and they're elated with the new equipment.
The unique playground opens play to all children. Principal Marty Baker said, "For them to be able to come out and to see the expression of folks who are in wheelchairs to be able to swing and to enjoy the feeling of swinging that sometimes we take for granted is Sometimes, I mean...It's more than I ever thought that it would be."
Donors include the Perkins Foundation, a gofundme site, Cypress Glynn, and Saint James United Methodist Church.
