Part of WITN's history is being torn down this week.

Our original building on U.S. 17 in Chocowinity is being demolished by current owner Harris Investment Group.

WITN started broadcasting from the building on September 28th, 1955 when we signed on the air with the World Series between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees. We continued to use the facility until June 5th, 2013, when WITN moved to new studios on Arlington Boulevard in Greenville.

Harris bought the 17,000 square foot building in November 2013 and had originally planned to use it for offices.

The location had been put up for auction several times recently. We're told the owners plan to sell the property after the site is cleared.

We recently salvaged vintage WITN signs from the property with plans to use these at our transmitter site outside of Grifton.
