WITN’s Teacher of the Week: Lisa Jensen from Pocosin Innovative Charter School

WASHINGTON COUNTY, NC (WITN) - WITN's Teacher of the Week for October 30 is Lisa Jensen from Pocosin Innovative Charter School.

Jensen earned her teaching degree from Appalachian State University in 2005 and has gone on to have a versatile teaching career, leaving her mark on a number of school districts across the state and across the globe.

She first started out teaching at her alma mater’s lab program to guide college students in a hands-on teaching environment. After that, Jensen transitioned to North Wilkesboro to fulfill her goal of teaching in a public school system. She taught there for five years before receiving a once in a lifetime opportunity to move overseas and teach in Germany for three years. She describes it as an “eye opening experience.”

She ultimately made the decision to move back to the states when it was time for her son to start kindergarten, leading to her career as a middle school teacher at the charter school in her hometown of Creswell.

The person who nominated Jensen wrote: “I nominate Ms. Jensen of Pocosin Innovative Charter School in Creswell, NC because she is a wonderful teacher. She has taught my son so much in just a couple of weeks of school. I know she will do great things in this school.”

Congratulations, Ms. Jensen!

Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 gift card for school supplies.
