WITN's Teacher of the Week: Kaitlyn Howard from G.R. Whitfield Elementary School
WITN's Teacher of the Week for October 9 is Kaitlyn Howard of G.R. Whitfield Elementary School in Pitt County.
Howard has taught kindergarten for the past four years. Before that, she taught first and second grades in Cumberland and Pitt Counties.
She graduated from ECU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2012 before going on to receive her Master’s Degree in Reading from ECU in 2018.
Howard says she has wanted to be a teacher for as long as she can remember. She says she loves getting the opportunity to set the foundation for her kindergarten students to be able to learn and be successful in school.
Outside of the classroom, Howard says she loves to spend time with her one year old son and husband.
The person who nominated Howard wrote: “I would like to nominate Mrs. Kaitlyn Howard who is a Kindergarten teacher at G.R Whitfield in Grimesland. She has been a blessing to not only my son, but other kids as well. When a child does not want to miss a day of school, that really speaks high volumes of Mrs. Howard and the school. My son has shown so much improvement in just a few months that I could not believe it is the same kid. She has gone above and beyond on several occasions to make sure my child was taken care of, kept me informed of what was going on and as a parent I am extremely thankful and blessed for all that she has done and continues to do for my son and all of the other kids that come in contact with her. She is an awesome teacher and definitely deserves some recognition for her hard work and wonderful teaching strategies!!!”
Congratulations, Mrs. Howard!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 gift card for school supplies.
