WITN's Teacher of the Week for November 14 is Samantha Cesar of Jacksonville Commons Middle School in Onslow County.

Cesar attended The Rutgers University School of Arts and Sciences in New Jersey and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, graduating with Magna Cum Laude Honors. She continued her education at The Rutgers Graduate School of Education, receiving her Master’s Degree in Special Education, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors for a second time.

Cesar has been working at Jacksonville Commons Middle School for 5 years now. She received the Teacher of the Year award for the 2017-2018 school year. She taught sixth grade ELA and Math for 3 years at JCMS, and is currently in her second year of teaching seventh grade ELA and Math there as well.

“Getting to work with students who struggle is very rewarding for me because the moment they finally understand a new concept, or even finally turn in a completed homework assignment, is validation that I am doing something right,” Cesar writes. “Also, Special Needs students are usually the ones who need an advocate, someone who is willing to fight for them, and hold them accountable when need be. I am that person for many, if not all, of my students.”

The person who nominated Cesar wrote: “Samantha Cesar has followed me from 6th to 7th grade, and both years were amazing. It’s absolutely a privilege to learn from her. She brings learning to a new level of education, and she can’t be appreciated enough. She deserves to be glorified for her good deeds and her amazing heart that always goes so beyond just doing her job. She has always been there for me and so many others and takes the worst kinds of school stresses off by just listening and helping us all feel like we are important and like family.”

Congratulations Mrs. Cesar!

Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card.
