WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Kelly Slade of Chicod School
WITN's Teacher of the Week for November 28 is Kelly Slade of Chicod School in Pitt County.
Slade grew up in Belhaven and graduated from Northside High School. She continued her education at UNC Wilmington, graudating with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religious Studies with a minor in Math. Slade has been teaching math and coaching volleyball for 12 years. She currently teaches Math 1 at Chicod School, and is in her third year at Chicod.
“It's an honor to be working in such a great community,” writes Slade.
The parent who nominated Slade wrote: “Her awesome personality and teaching skills make for such a fun and enjoyable learning atmosphere for any kid she teaches. She engages kids in learning in a way that is fun, encouraging and they look forward to going to her class to learn math! In addition to her teaching style and ability to create a positive learning environment, she dedicates hours of her time after teaching hours to coach the A and B volleyball teams. She is always an encouraging coach and teacher, and teaches/coaches in a way kids can learn and grow. She is also very tenacious in her efforts to do what is right and to be fair with everyone. She is so positive and encouraging that it’s contagious! She also communicates with parents extremely well and gives feedback when needed. My daughter is in Ms. Slade’s 8th grade math class and also plays volleyball under her coaching. She has had such growth this year academically, socially and comes home happy from school because of her influence on my daughter.”
Congratulations Ms. Slade!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
