WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Jared Adams of Northside High School
WITN's Teacher of the Week for March 20 is Jared Adams of Northside High School in Beaufort County.
Adams’s teaching and coaching career began at East Carolina University where he received a BS and MAED in Physical Education with concentrations in Math Education and Pedagogy. During his first four years at Northside High School, Adams taught Math 1. Currently he teaches Health/Physical Education, Coach JV/Varsity Boys Basketball and Varsity golf.
The parent who nominated Adams wrote: “He is a model teacher in every sense of the word. He taught my daughter two years ago and took a student that did not like school and especially math and developed a love for school in her again as well as math. He works with each student on their individual level and brings the most out of them. One of the greatest things I have ever seen in 24 years of education happened yesterday. He placed a special needs student on his basketball team, set up a locker for this student to surprise him for the last home basketball game. He then informed the other team (Mattamuskeet Early College High School) what he was doing and the student scored 12 points in the game. This event will be a highlight not only for the student, but for all of the students and community members that were in attendance. This is just one example of many that demonstrate what an outstanding teacher and coach this young man is and is deserving (in my humble opinion at least) of any and all recognition he receives. Great coaches are great teachers in the classroom and he is definitely a great coach and teacher.”
Congratulations, Mr. Adams!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
