WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Donna Wynn from EJ Hayes Elementary School
WITN's Teacher of the Week for February 20 is Donna Wynn from EJ Hayes Elementary School in Martin County.
Wynn is currently the STEAM teacher at EJ Hayes. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) is a new class at the school to help students apply hands on activities to help them think outside of the box. Before this class, she has taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades since working at EJ Hayes.
Wynn says she graduated from Martin Community College in 1990 receiving her Associates Degree with the focus on Physical Therapy. I worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant for 15 years and then decided to become a teacher. While working full time, she attended Barton University's Weekend College. She graduated from Barton in 2005 and started teaching in Pinetops at Edgecombe Middle School. After one year there, she moved to EJ Hayes.
The person who nominated Ms. Wynn wrote: “She is such a nice teacher, she is caring, and inspirational. I appreciate her a lot and she does so much for her students. She is the best teacher anyone can have. She will go all the way for anyone, including her family. She has so many students, because she is a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) teacher. She loves and supports all of her students. She believes that everyone should have a right to go to school and learn. She is beautiful, kind, sweet, huge-hearted, and she is my best friend. I am her best friend, and I can't tell you how much I love her, she is the best teacher in the world to me. She has inspired her children, me, my sister, and her husband to do want we want to do in life, not what anyone else wants us to do, and go our own way.”
Congratulations, Ms. Wynn!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card.
