WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Danielle Witchet of Chocowinity Middle School
WITN's Teacher of the Week for January 2 is Danielle Witchet of Chocowinity Middle School in Beaufort County.
Witchet is in her 19th year in education. “I am just as passionate about teaching today as I was my first year,” Witchet writes.
Witchet was born and rasied in Houston, Texas, but says her family roots are in North Carolina. She spent eleven years living in Queretaro, Mexico and is fluent in Spanish. “With my life experiences, I am able to bring diverse perspectives and ideas to my classroom,” Witchet writes.
Witchet won an essay contest about life and teaching in Oprah Magazine, and the prize was a week-long cruise!
The student who nominated Witchet wrote: “First, she is super friendly and nice to her students. You can talk to her if you have any questions, and she is more than happy to help. Second ,she goes out of her way to ensure that we all understand what she is teaching. With her guidance my End of Grade test scores have come up a lot.”
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
