WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Christi Clark of Queens Creek Elementary School

WITN's Teacher of the Week for May 15 is Christi Clark of Queens Creek Elementary School in Onslow County

Clark earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Morehead State University in Kentucky in 2002. She received a Master of Science degree in Middle Level Education from Walden University in 2009. As a military wife, Clark has had the opportunity to teach in four states: Kentucky, California, Virginia, and North Carolina. She has taught second, third, fourth, and seventh grades during her teaching career. Clark has taught at Queens Creek Elementary School (QCE) in Swansboro for six years where she is currently teaching second grade. QCE is a Green/Global school, so it is the perfect setting for Clark because she is especially passionate about providing students with authentic cultural and environmental experiences. Clark’s other passion is spending precious time with her two daughters, three grandchildren, and lots of fur babies.

“My fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Deskins, and my high school business teacher, Mrs. Rose, both inspired me to become a teacher,” Clark writes. “I loved the way they made students feel special and important. Making sure that students are loved, respected, and appreciated is my daily goal. I love spending each school day with students of all ages. They make me laugh and I learn something from them every single day! I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have such a fulfilling career!

“Creating fun learning activities for students is so important to me,” Clark continues. “I want children to enjoy learning and have a desire to come to school. Thanks to my awesome second grade team, our administration, and the entire QCE staff, I feel as though our students are getting the best educational experiences possible. My grade level takes care of our school’s chickens, which is a thrill for the students, who love observing, interacting, and learning about our feathered friends.

“Finally, this year’s personal and professional challenges provided by Hurricane Florence are coming to an end. This year has been fabulous thanks to my QCE friends, students, parents, and especially my team! I love being a teacher and I can’t imagine doing anything else!”

The parent who nominated Clark wrote: “Mrs. Clark teaches second grade and has been a great teacher to my niece, Mikayla while she lives here in North Carolina; my niece has lived with our family while my sister was deployed while serving in the United States Air Force. My daughter, who is now a ninth grader at the Onslow Early College High School also had Mrs. Clark when she attended QCE as a fourth grader and her experience was extremely rewarding and encouraging of her future. Mrs. Clark is inspiring and teaches her students not only what is found in the standard curriculum but also positive character attributes and how their futures have the potential to make great changes in our future society. Additionally, Mrs. Clark also holds strong military ties which helped her understand our particular situation; she also funded two journals for my niece to use as daily journals for my niece's parents.

“Additionally, my niece’s stay is slowly coming to an end here in the ENC; Queens Creek Elementary has been such great host to her and they are by far one of the most outstanding schools in our community for military children.”

Congratulations, Ms. Clark!
