WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Brianna Erwin of Ben D. Quinn Elementary
WITN's Teacher of the Week for January 16 is Brianna Erwin of Ben D. Quinn Elementary in Craven County.
Erwin has been teaching in Craven County Schools for 5 years and currently teaches first grade. She is also the secretary of the PTO Board. Erwin is a single mom with two daughters, and she says she fell in love with Ben D. Quinn Elementary when her oldest daughter started the 2nd grade there.
Erwin is originally from Virginia Beach and earned her degree from Old Dominion University. “I knew I wanted to be a teacher from an early age,” Erwin writes. “My love for teaching grew even more from my experiences with my own teachers growing up. My sixth grade ELA/Social Studies teacher and my biology teacher in high school really paved the way for me. Their passion and excitement for learning showed me that a career like this can and is fun!”
The parent who nominated Erwin wrote: “She is the epitome of a great teacher. During Hurricane Florence she contacted each of her families to make sure they were okay, posted helpful resources in her teacher/parent communication app when school was out so parents had ideas to help their children. Having volunteered in her class she is able to make sure all of her first graders are engaged and learning. She keeps parents updated on all things going on in her class, but more importantly, she makes learning fun for each kid. Our lives are forever touched by the care she gives our son.”
Congratulations Ms. Erwin!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
