WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Amy Davis of Southwest Elementary in Jacksonville
WITN's Teacher of the Week for October 17 is Amy Davis of Southwest Elementary in Jacksonville in Onslow County.
Davis is now in her 7th year as a kindergarten teacher in Onslow County. Davis says she’s always dreamed of becoming a teacher; she spent a lot of time volunteering in a local elementary school. Davis acquired her degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Davis writes, “Helping build a positive educational foundation for children is such a rewarding experience, and I love the relationships and memories I get to build with each of my students every year. This is my calling, and I thank God every day for allowing me the pleasure of molding the minds of some of His most precious gifts.”
The parent who nominated Davis wrote, “We have been hit hard by Hurricane Florence. As a result our kids are going on 3 weeks of no school. Ms. Davis sent out a video of herself reading a book to her kindergarten students. Our so had been so disappointed since he had not been in school. When he got to see that video he brightened up so much. Teachers like Ms. Davis going above and beyond during devastating times like these really show love and compassion in what they do.”
Congratulations Ms. Davis!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise.
The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
