WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Christine Natividad of Chicod School
WITN's Teacher of the Week for May 8 is Christine Natividad of Chicod School in Pitt County.
Natividad is an an ECU graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Middle Grades Math and Science. She has been teaching for 20 years and most of that time has been at Chicod. “Nothing brings out the joy than seeing a ‘light bulb’ go off when a student masters a concept,” Natividad writes. “Each day is a new day to build relationships with students and the community; these connections drive me to do my best.”
Natividad says when she was a kid, she wanted to be an astronaut, then a nurse. In 7th grade, however, she decided she’d like to become a teacher. She discovered in high school that she enjoyed math the most and helping others understand it better.”
The parent who nominated Natividad wrote: “The reason I’m nominating her may not seem like a big deal but it was very important to me. She went out of her way to call me to let me know how well my son is doing in her 7th grade math class. She didn’t have to do this because report cards are coming out soon, but she was so excited for my child that she did not want to keep it a surprise. Sometimes as parents we only hear about the not so great things our children are doing in school, so receiving a phone call to personally deliver positive feedback means a lot. It shows that Ms. Natividad is invested in her students and cares about their academic performance.
Congratulations, Ms. Natividad!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card.
