WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Betty Raynor of East Duplin High School
WITN's Teacher of the Week for December 6 is Betty Raynor of East Duplin High School.
Mrs. Raynor attended UNC at Chapel Hill and UNC atWilmington with a BA in Education. She has added English and Academically Gifted to her certification as well. Raynor has been teaching English for 25 years. She has been the Beta Club sponsor for all 25 of those years. As a National Board Certified teacher, she has also been the Beta Club State Sponsor for North Carolina at the Junior High level and Senior High level. In addition to sponsoring the club at East Duplin, she now serves a second term on the North Carolina Beta Club Council.
“Teaching is a calling,” according to Raynor, and she is dedicated to students who have become as her very own children.
The person who nominated Raynor wrote: “Her Beta Club students regularly participate in service projects in the Beulaville community, such as visiting nursing home residents, picking up highway trash, and collecting needed supplies for families impacted by disasters in other parts of the country. Mrs. Raynor also takes her Beta students to the NC Beta Convention each year, almost always producing state winners in Group Talent as well as individual categories. Further, her Beta students attend the National Beta Convention each year and regularly place nationally in the top five groups in Group Talent. At these conventions, her students are competing with students from much larger schools from around the country, yet always put East Duplin on the map with their competitive and inspiring performances.”
Congratulations to Betty Raynor!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
