WITN'S Teacher of the Week: Judy Asselmeier of D.H. Conley High School
WITN's first Teacher of the Week for the 2017-2018 school year is Judy Asselmeier from DH Conley High School in Pitt County.
Born in Tennessee, Asselmeier has lived in nine states. She originally graduated from William Woods College with a degree in Equestrian Studies. She soon went back to nursing school in St. Louis, MO before working as a nurse in St. Louis, Minneapolis and Trenton, NJ.
Asselmeier moved to Greenville 1998 with her husband and two sons and started working at DH Conley the following year.
"I have been teaching wonderful students going into healthcare careers since then," Asselmeier says. "I have enjoyed working with these great high school students as they make decisions about their future careers."
Multiple students nominated Asselmeier.
One nomination said the following: "She is the most loving and caring teacher and treats her students as her own children. She makes sure day in and day out that we study and practice everything we need to know for our end of the year Nurse Aid exam...She finds time to face time us and talk to us and continues to answer our questions. She is the most dedicated teacher and loves to see her students succeed. She has been working in Pitt County Schools since February 13th, 1999. She plans to retire this school year, and if it was not for her, most of the nursing students would not consider a career in Nursing. She deserves Teacher of the Week!"
Congratulations, Mrs. Asselmeier!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
