Volunteers prepare holiday food boxes for children
Volunteers met at a warehouse in Greenville Wednesday to put together 500 boxes of goods for children just ahead of the holidays.
The group meets twice a year to pack boxes filled with canned goods and non-perishables.
It's called The Community Feed Our Children, and their goal is to give boxes to several non-profits, soup kitchens, programs, and school systems around the East, including home deliveries for emergencies.
500 children and families will receive one box of food for each of the two weeks they are out of school.
Reverend Rodney Coles, with Churches Outreach Network, said the need for food assistance goes up every year.
"Every year, it's always an increase. When it comes down to the food voucher program, that's from the community, that's always increasing, easy, another 15 or 20 percent. When it comes from the children from schools that's another 10 or 15 percent."
Coles says the group is always looking for more volunteers.
Anyone who wants to help or donate is welcome to join them in the efforts to feed community children and their families.
