Vidant moving EastCare chopper out of Beaufort County

WASHINGTON, NC (WITN) - Vidant Health confirms it is pulling its EastCare helicopter out of Beaufort County.

In a statement to WITN News, Vidant said the helicopter, which is currently stationed at the Washington airport, will be moved to Vidant Bertie Hospital.

EastCare has had a helicopter at Warren Field since 2015, placed there after Vidant shut down its hospital in Belhaven.

Vidant says it is constantly evaluating how to best serve the region, and that the helicopter will be "strategically positioned to meet the needs of the communities we serve to include those further from Vidant Medical Center."

EastCare will continue to have an ambulance based in Beaufort County. Eight of those employees will remain in Beaufort County, while another eight will be given the chance to relocate.

Vidant didn't give an exact date for the change, other than to say it would happen later this year.
