Vidant, ECU Brody School of Medicine surgeons perform first robotic kidney transplant in North Carolina

da Vinci training scenario

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN)- A first of its kind transplant for North Carolina was successfully performed here in the east.

Vidant officials say that surgeons and care providers with the hospital and the Brody School of Medicine completed a robotic kidney transplant, the first of its kind in our state.

We're told the procedure is minimally invasive and was performed with the most advanced Da Vinci XI surgical system, using a small six-centimeter incision and five smaller incisions on the recipient’s abdomen.

A press conference will be held this afternoon where we'll learn more about the procedure and have that for you tonight on WITN News.
