Vidant Duplin provides free OTC meds for those in need
Over the counter medication can be expensive, but thanks to a mobile pharmacy, some Duplin County residents are getting some for free during Vidant Duplin's third annual free mobile pharmacy.
Katie Adams was among the 800 to 1,000 people expected to show up. She says, "You should never have to sit there and decide, do I pay my electric bill or do I feed my kids, or do I buy my kids their medicine."
Each year people can choose eight medicines they need. Then volunteers like Serena Smith help fill the bags, each one with around $100.00 worth of products.
Smith says, "Our community appreciates it. The people really need the medication and it gives them access to that."
It's all made possible through grant money that Vidant Duplin gives to the nonprofit NC Med Assist, which then provides the medication.
Products available range from children's medicine, to vitamins, adult pain medicine, and tons more.
