Vandalism forces precinct change in Tuesday's GOP runoff primary
Voters in one Greenville precinct for tomorrow's GOP congressional runoff will see a slight change in where they vote.
People who usually cast ballots at the Hooker Memorial Christian Church on Greenville Boulevard will not be voting in the church fellowship hall. The Pitt County Board of Elections says because of vandalism done overnight to the building, the precinct will now be held in the main church building.
The church minister says someone threw a brick through a back window, came inside and discharged a fire extinguisher throughout the building, creating a mess. Nothing was taken in the break-in, according to the minister.
She said one of the vandals took a popsicle out of the refrigerator, ate it, and then threw the wrapper in the trash can.
The elections board wants to alert voters to the emergency change in precinct locations.
