NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WITN) - The cause of a fire that destroyed a beachfront duplex has been ruled undetermined by investigators.
Sunday's fire destroyed the 15-person duplex on New River Inlet Road in North Topsail Beach. No one was injured in the blaze that took nearly 90 minutes to bring under control.
Investigators today said the fire began outside the duplex's first level on the northeast corner. Because the home was destroyed, and there was more than one source of possible ignition in that area, investigators said they can't pinpoint a cause.
The town's fire investigator said a joint review by the ATF, SBI and the State Fire Marshal's Office all agreed with the findings.
Some vacationers are displaced after the beachfront duplex they were staying in caught fire over the weekend.
North Topsail Beach Fire Department says the fire broke out at a 15-person duplex on New River Inlet Road near Topsail Villas just before 5 a.m. Sunday.
Firefighters say the people staying at the duplex were vacationing and are now staying with other family members in the area.
No one was injured in the blaze.
It took crews from five different departments more than 10 hours to put out remaining hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
