GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - Three Eastern Carolina fire departments have won a national contest supporting fire safety.
Greenville Fire/Rescue, Rocky Mount Fire Department, and Wilson Fire-Rescue Services created a video emphasizing the importance of closing bedroom doors at bedtime.
'Close B4 U Doze' was the winning video. The departments will be presented with a $25,000 check which will go towards local fire safety education.
The UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute sponsored the contest.
Firefighters here in Eastern Carolina have just a couple more days to collect enough votes to stay in the running for $25,000 in cold cash.
Fire departments from across the country are getting creative and producing videos to promote "Close Before You Doze". Those educate people that closing your bedroom door when you sleep can stop the spread of fire and ultimately save lives.
Greenville Fire/Rescue, along with the Rocky Mount Fire Department, and Wilson Fire-Rescue Services, recently created the video.
The UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute will award the best video $25,000. Second place with receive $15,000 and third gets $10,000 to help fund fire safety programs.
Online voting through Sunday will select eight finalists. Those will then be judged by a panel of UL representatives who will award the cash prizes on October 1st.
