Two-state police chase on I-95 lands New York man in jail

NASH COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A New York man is in an Eastern Carolina jail cell after he led police on a two-state chase this morning.

Nash County deputies say it all began when police in Emporia, Virginia stopped a vehicle on I-95. They say the driver and one passenger ran in opposite directions, and while officers were chasing them, a third person in the SUV jumped in the driver's seat and took off.

The ensuing chase went into Halifax County and eventually to Nash County where deputies were able to use stop sticks that flattened two of the SUV's tires.

The vehicle crashed just west of Rocky Mount at milepost 136, and deputies say Jacob Angelo ran into some adjacent woods.

Two Nash County K-9s went looking for the man, and it didn't take long for one of them to locate Angelo.

It turns out that Angelo was wanted in New York for a robbery as well as other charges.
