Two nabbed after Jacksonville shooting

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Two people have been charged after an early morning shooting in one Eastern Carolina city.

Balinda Melvin, 34, of Hubert, has been charged with possession of firearm by felon, possession of stolen firearm, carrying concealed gun, discharge of firearm in city limits, and discharge of firearm with 500 feet of a dwelling.

Rogers Ludwig, 32, of Jacksonville. was charged with possession of firearm by felon, possession of stolen firearm, and carrying concealed gun.

Jacksonville police say around 2:40 a.m. officers on foot patrol near Jacksonville High School heard gunshots. Around the same time, police also received a call of a shooting in the parking lot of Cardinal Lounge, which is located across the street from the high school in Gum Branch Road.

Officers were able to stop a fleeing vehicle on Grandeur Drive and arrest Melvin and Ludwig. They are being held on $20,000 bonds.
