Two museums that were forced to shut down ahead of Hurricane Dorian are reopening today.
The Maritime Museum in Beaufort and the NC Maritime Museum at Southport will reopen on their regular schedules starting today.
The museums closed ahead of Dorian and remained closed until staff could assess any damage. Luckily, no significant damage was reported at either of the museums.
The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras is still closed this morning.
Staff is expected to return to the museum today to look at the damage. Initial reports indicate the museum, which is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, was not damaged.
A reopening date has not been set.
