CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Twin brothers appeared separately this morning for their first court appearances on murder charges.
Eric Coward / Dereck Coward
Eric and Dereck Coward were arrested Friday by Craven County deputies after a shooting on Riverside Road, about halfway between Grifton and Vanceboro.
Anthony Tucker, 33, was found dead inside his vehicle, according to deputies.
In court this morning, a judge ordered them held without bond, gave the brothers court-appointed attorneys and set February 1st as their next court date.
Deputies have not said anything about a possible motive in the shooting.
The Craven County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of a man near Grifton.
Deputies say they responded to a shooting call at 465 Riverside Road in Grifton Friday, just after midnight.
That's where deputies found Anthony Tucker, 33, dead inside his vehicle across the street from the reported address.
Deputies say their investigation led to the arrests of Eric Coward, 22, and Derek Coward, 22, both of 465 Riverside Road.
They each are facing one count of open murder and being held in jail without bond.
Deputies say they believe the victim was accelerating out of the driveway when he was shot, sending him across the road and into a tree.
The suspects live with relatives at the home on Riverside Drive, according the deputies, and all parties involved knew each other.
Both Eric and Derek Coward are expect to make a court appearance on Monday.
