Two killed, one critically injured in Pender County crash

PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Two people from the east were killed and one person was critically injured in a head-on collision on Highway 210 in Pender County just before noon on Sunday.

Highway Patrol says the wreck took place on Highway 210 just past the intersection at Borough Road.

Officials said a 2005 Pontiac, driven by Joshua Ward, 26, of Jacksonville, was traveling at an excessive speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle slid sideways into the eastbound shoulder and crossed the center line, colliding with another vehicle.

Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Chappell said the roadway was wet at the time of the crash.

Ward and his passenger, Chesney Fairclough, 28, of Jacksonville, both died as a result of the wreck.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

No charges will be filed in the wreck.
