Two employees shot at Smithfield Packing in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Two employees have been shot at a business in our state in what the sheriff's office called an active shooter situation.

Investigators in Bladen County say it happened around midnight at Smithfield Packing in Tar Heel, which is just south of Fayetteville.

The Bladen County Sheriff's Office says two people are hurt and one person is in custody.

WRAL is reporting that 20-year-old Jaquante Williams is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Williams is accused of shooting two of his co-workers, a man and woman, in a stairwell. Both were flown to hospitals.

There's no word on the condition of the victims at this time.

Hundreds of employees were evacuated, but have since been allowed back in the building.
