GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - Police say a routine traffic stop netted them five kilos of heroin, worth more than $1 million on the street.
Greenville police arrested Juan Guzman-Gonzales, 44, and Magda Velasquez-Perez, 39, both of Maryland, on Sunday.
They're accused of possessing and transporting heroin.
The seizure happened after their vehicle was stopped for a moving violation in the area of 10th Street and Brownlea Drive.
Police say the heroin was being brought into Greenville from out of state.
Both suspects are being held at the Pitt County Detention Center under $6 million bonds.
After a first court appearance Monday morning, bonds for both were kept at $6 million, and a judge set May 15th as their next court date.
Gonzales said he would hire his own lawyer, while Perez was given a court-appointed attorney.
