Two Craven County homes hit by lightning, one destroyed

CRAVEN COUNTY, NC (WITN) One home in Craven County was destroyed while another was damaged after lightning strikes during Wednesday night's storms.

A home on Rivershore Drive southeast of New Bern was struck by lightning around 1:00 a.m. Thursday.

Emergency management officials say there were two people home at the time but neither was injured.

Four fire departments responded to the scene and the fire was put out by 5:30 a.m. The home was destroyed by the blaze and the Red Cross is assisting the residents.

A mobile home north of New Bern on Morning Star Drive was also damaged by flames after a nearby storage shed was struck by lightning and caught fire around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The shed was destroyed while the mobile home sustained damage to the exterior. The inside of the home wasn't damaged and nobody was injured by the fire.

The two fires were about 13 miles apart.
