Traffic expected as ECU students move onto campus

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - It's the start of another semester at ECU.

Students will be moving back onto campus starting Wednesday, August 14.

To help alleviate congestion, ECU Police Captain Chris Sutton says they will be closing 14th Street from Elm Street to Charles Blvd from 9am-4pm Wednesday through Friday.

Sutton says as many as 4,400 students will be moving in over the course of those three days, so re-routing local traffic will help make accessing campus smoother.

Currently, there are multiple construction projects happening in Uptown Greenville. Sutton says anyone trying to enter campus from the west end of Uptown may need to find alternate routes due to closures.

It's also important for drivers and pedestrians to be on high alert, as many people will be crossing roads to get to where they need to be.

"Be patient and be very defensive in your driving. Don't be distracted by your cell phone or your radio. Watch all of the traffic that's around you and use situational awareness," said Sutton.

Classes begin on Monday, August 19.
