Authorities are investigating thousands of dead fish found in the Pamlico River.

Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Heather Jacobs Deck says reports started coming in this afternoon upstream of Bath Creek and also at Core Point.

So far, all of the killed fish are menhaden.

Jacobs Deck says the kill is likely due that some of the algae bloom last week is starting to die off, causing low oxygen conditions in the river.

The riverkeeper says a swim advisory was supposed to be issued by the state for the area, but we haven't seen one yet.
