Police have charged a 17-year-old with making a false report concerning mass violence against a high school in our state.

The Garner Police Department posted on Twitter early Thursday morning that they took 17-year-old Judah Dennis into custody overnight without incident.

The teen is accused of posting threatening messages through the social media app Snapchat against students at Garner Magnet High School in Wake County, prompting the public school system to beef up security personnel for Thursday.

The school's principal posted a statement online informing families of the ongoing situation and investigation and urging parents to not let their children spread rumors and 'perpetuate fear' on social media, but instead report the information to school administration.

Despite the arrest, school officials say there will still be a heightened police presence at Garner Magnet High School Thursday.
