SNEADS FERRY, NC (WITN) - Two employees of an Eastern Carolina daycare center are suspended after an infant was injured earlier this week.
It happened Monday at the Childcare Network in Sneads Ferry.
A company statement says the two teachers involved have been suspended without pay pending further investigation.
The company said it is heartbroken about what happened and their thoughts and prayers are with the child and his family. "The safety and well-being of this child and all of the children we serve is our top priority," the statement said.
The boy was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment and was released to his parents on Thursday.
The Onslow County Sheriff's Office says the owner of the facility notified them at 11:30 p.m. Monday that an infant in their care was injured. Deputies say they are still investigating what happened.
The state Department of Health and Human Services lists it as a 5 star childcare center, the highest given by the state. The last inspected the facility in October and gave it a superior classification.
