KINSTON, NC (WITN) - Part of Queen Street in Downtown Kinston will be closed for the next couple of days so crews can pave the road.
The first phase is between King Street to Caswell Street, which will be closed today.
Caswell to North Streets will be closed on Thursday, while North to Blount Streets will be closed on Friday for the paving project.
Crews are warning drivers to slow down near work zones and plan for extra time to get where you need to be.
Detour signs will be posted.
After three years of construction work on two different projects, Kinston's main street is about the become a lot smoother.
The state Department of Transportation this morning began milling and repaving Queen Street.
The work is expected to take until the first of November.
The heavily traveled street first was torn up in 2016 when the city replaced aging water and sewer lines. Then a major makeover of the downtown portion of Queen Street caused more bumps in the road.
The DOT said after the streetscape project was completed, they would come in and repave the entire street.
