GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - Voting ended tonight in a nationwide contest on Twitter to name America's best college bar.

Sup Dogs in Greenville has officially been named the winner.

The restaurant and bar faced off against a bar near Penn State called Champs in the final round of 5th year's "Barstool Best Bar" competition.

The bracket-style Twitter competition began with 64 bars from across the country.

Championship round voting began Wednesday afternoon and continues until 9 pm Thursday.

As of Wednesday night, 5th Year tweeted that Sup Dogs had a day one lead over Champs but organizers are not releasing exact numbers until voting has ended.

A local bar is moving on to the finals in the search for America's best college bar.

Sup Dogs in Greenville is one of the last two standing in a bracket-style Twitter competition that started out with 64 college bars across the country.

The restaurant and bar knocked out the Scarlet Pub, which was representing Rutgers University in New Jersey, by just over 2,700 votes this week.

Sup Dogs will face Champs, which is a bar located near Penn State in the championship.

Voting will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon on Twitter.

An Uptown Greenville fixture is advancing to the next round in an online tournament searching for America's best college bar.

Sup Dogs was one of 64 favorite college bars from around the country selected for the bracket-style tournament on Twitter.

In the round of 32, a flurry of 5,000 votes for an LSU-based establishment minutes before voting closed was called into question.

Tournament organizers said they would introduce overtime asking fans of each bar to tweet for their favorite of the two establishments.

After 7 hours of voting, organizers announced that Sup Dogs would be continuing to the Sweet 16 in the tournament.

The Greenville restaurant and bar will be competing against a Western Kentucky-based bar in the next round. Voting begins on Twitter at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Tournament organizers say they looked into the surge of last-minute votes, but there is not enough evidence to warrant a disqualification.

To keep things fair, organizers say they are introducing an overtime matchup between Sup Dogs and the bar representing Louisiana.

Voting will close at midnight on Thursday. Only one vote will be allowed for each account.
