Students attend Ag-Expo in Martin County

MARTIN COUNTY, NC (WITN) More than 1,000 students from around the northeast region came out to learn all about the agriculture industry and ag careers.

The students from more than a dozen schools converged at the Bob Martin Ag Center today for the sixth annual Northeast Ag Expo.

Students had the chance to see all different types of career and educational opportunities that are offered around the state in the agriculture and farming industry.

Mac Hodges, District Field Representative for NC Farm Bureau says, "Kids today think it's only two things plows and cows, agriculture is widespread, there are many, many opportunities out there and we're just trying to give them the opportunity to see what's out there and see those opportunities here."

Organizers of the event say their job of making sure students see all of the opportunities farming can offer is critical to the area which relies heavily on the economic impacts from agriculture.
