Stranded driver arrested on drug possession during welfare check

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) A Clayton man has been arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and heroin.

On Thursday, Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies performed a welfare check for a stranded driver on West Ash Street in Goldsboro.

After a sobriety test, deputies determined that Leamon Canady Jr., 47, was impaired on alcohol and drugs.

During a search, deputies found Canady in possession of methamphetamine and heroin.

Canady was arrested and placed in the Wayne County Detention Center, and placed under $8,000 bond.
