A former state probation officer, who is the husband of a state senator, has been indicted on seven counts of rape.
The SBI confirms that Maud Ingram, 50, of Henrico, was indicted on seven counts of first degree rape and seven counts of extortion.
Last year, the Halifax County probation officer was arrested with attempted second-degree rape, felony obstruction of justice, and failing to make reports and discharge other duties. The victims in those September charges were probationers, according to authorities.
The SBI set up a hotline after Ingram's initial arrest, encouraging additional victims to come forward. The indictments in Halifax County came in June, according to the SBI.
Ingram is married to State Senator Erica Smith-Ingram who represents Bertie, Chowan, Edgecombe, Hertford, Martin, Northampton, Tyrrell, and Washington counties.
The SBI says Crystal Wallace was also arrested for felony obstruction of justice for an alleged bribe attempt.
The Department of Public Safety says Ingram was fired last November.
