A South Carolina teen plead guilty to second-degree burglary at a child's birthday party.

17-year-old Rufus Gates admitted his role in the robbery last week.

Gates is sentenced to 5 year maximum under the Youthful Offender Act, which provides different options for young people convicted of certain nonviolent crimes in South Carolina.

Gates faced other charges including possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, armed robbery and six counts of kidnapping, but they were later dismissed.

Alexander Lamar Outaw assisted Gates in the robbery. He pleaded guilty in November 2016 to multiple charges and is now serving a 10 year sentence.

Police say that Gates and Outlaw stormed into a room at the Santee's Delta Motel around 9 p.m. on December 15th, 2015.

Inside the motel room, four children and two adults were gathered to celebrate a birthday.

Both Gates and Outlaw were armed. Police say they pushed all six victims into a corner and demanded that one man give them his property.

Santee is located in between Columbia and Charleston.
